Israel and the Left (Part 2, Media Edition)

It is really interesting when you sit down and think about the alliance between the far left and the Muslim Brotherhood.  The far left has made it clear that they support Palestine and Muslim desires in the Middle East over Israel’s right to exist.  Here are several examples; (Thanks Legal Insurrection)

Glenn Greenwald over at Salon goes on and on about how the IDF ruthlessly attacked and killed several defenseless humanitarian aid workers.

“Late last night, Israel attacked a flotilla of ships in international waters carrying food, medicine, and other aid to Gaza, killing at least 10 civilians on board and injuring at least 30 more (many reports not put the number at 19 dead and 60 injured). The Israeli Defense for is claiming its soldiers were attacked with clubs, knives and ‘handguns’ when they boarded the ship without permission.” (emphasis added)

If you have the time, you must read the first few pages of the comments sections. I never realized how many of the left truly hated Israel and wish for its demise.  It was quite stunning to read.

Please note the words civilians and claiming as used in the article.
Here is a link to Ace-of-Spades detailing the previous activities of these “civilians”. In the strictest terms, yes they are civilians. As former military we classified those not in uniforms into two categories: 1) Civilians, the population at large not in uniform and not engaged in hostilities, and 2) Illegal combatants, those not in uniforms who engage in hostile acts aimed at either civilian or military targets. In other words; terrorists.
As for “claiming” they were attacked first, the video evidence is pretty clear. During the boarding process, IDF personnel were attacked with knives and pipes.

Never mind that the IDF was attacked first when they boarded the ship. Never mind that the stated goal of flotilla participants was to break the embargo or die in the attempt. Never mind those flotilla organizers have direct ties to terrorist organizations whose sole purpose is to eliminate the Jewish State of Israel. Never mind that several photos taken during the attack were doctored in the terrorist’s favor.

John Cole over at balloon-juice.com is very snark-ish in his little bit about the attacks.

“You never thought there would any violence? Did you miss the entire Gaza incursion? The minute I read about the flotilla I knew what was going to happen – violence.”

The above was in reply to a statement by Greta Berlin, a leader of the pro-Palestinian Free Gaza Movement.

“We never thought there would be any violence,” she said.

Once again you must read the comments below the post. I just cannot wrap my head around the left’s utter disdain for Israel and its people.  And I have been following politics in my own way for three and half decades and the complete contempt for Israel and its people is stunning. I am shaking my head right now.

This article from Think Progress starts off on a fairly even keel (probably to draw us hopeful conservatives into their web), but rapidly turns into a US, Egypt, and Israel bash-fest.  By the time the third paragraph rolls around terms and statements like the following were being bandied about:

“…the Israeli government and its American mouthpiece were hard at work to downplay the extent of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza,… (emphasis added)

“…and to present the flotilla’s sponsors as supporters of terrorism (The evidence for the latter claim seems to amount to the usual game of “six degrees of Osama bin Laden,)…” (emphasis added)

“Like segregation in the American South, the siege of Gaza (and the entire Israeli occupation, for that matter) is a moral abomination that should be intolerable to anyone claiming progressive values. It’s sad that it should require the deaths of non-Palestinians to finally shake the international community from apathy and inaction, but, as with the tragic murders of Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner, if it contributes to ending the situation then that’s a positive outcome.” (emphasis added)

Progressive values. Progressive groups like Code Pink and the other leftist organizations that are supporters of a group of people who vow to end Israel’s existence?

The deaths of the civil-rights workers in Mississippi were tragic beyond words. But there is a huge difference between their murders and those non-Palestinians on the Flotilla. Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner did not attack the people who lynched them, they were murdered in cold blood. Video evidence is pretty clear the people on the flotilla were ready, willing, and somewhat able to start a fight, and that is just what they did.

Over at Right Wing News, John Hawkins has even more links to the thought processes of the left, specifically targeted at the flotilla incident last year. He compares the left reactions to reactions from the right. The general theme from the right is that you shouldn’t bring a pipe to a gun fight.

On link provided by “The New Ledger” was quite prophetic :

…The Israeli soldiers reacted as anyone would react when attacked by a club and knife-wielding mob. And lastly, that they and Israel are about to be internationally crucified, once again, for doing precisely this.

…Movover, it is already clear that this violence was undertaken with one purpose in mind and one purpose only – to provoke the political/media assault on Israel which is about to ensue.

As it turns out, they were right. Israel was attacked viciously by the media, the UN, and by many countries, even ours. It seems that no one respects Israel’s right to protect itself.  A country famous for blockades (here, here) should understand Israel’s determination to control what goes into Gaza.

I’d be willing to bet that if you asked the Israelis if they would like to live in peace with the Arab world, the answer would be pretty much a unanimous YES!

Taken in its entirety, the link and support between the Muslim Brotherhood and the leftist media should come as no surprise. the left has been railing agaisnt Israel for many years, and anything that happens in the Middle East that can have a negative impact on Israel is OK as far as the leftist media is concerned.
